The poem, written in a hendecasyllabic (11-syllable) meter, was considered so explicit that a full English translation was not published until the late twentieth century. Catullus' Carmen 16, sometimes referred to by its first line, "Paedicabo ego vos et irrumabo," is only of several poems addressed to two men: Marcus Furius Bibaculus (who had an affair with Hostile, sarcastic humor about men acting like women is precisely what Catullus' Poem 16 is all about.
